Cyril and Marge’s story using Stannah Stairlifts

Marge

We purchased it for my husband Cyril due to him having a stroke about 9 years ago. We thought we might move but then it was such a lot of uprising.

The men came round from Stannah Stairlifts to check the hallway for measurement and it was impossible to leave it how it was because of Cyril’s legs so they had to take the banister rail out and make a new one which they did and it’s absolutely brilliant. They were really caring.

Very clean work. Very clean workers cleaned up immaculately after. He knew the colour I was having because I already got the new paper to go up and he picked me the chair to match, which I thought was lovely. Absolutely wonderful. I can’t fault them.

I do think it’s classy, definitely. If he’s sitting on there I would like to guide it up but he says no I can do it, I can do it, guides himself. The chair comes in handy when Cyril gets up out of bed he can take his time get to the chair and come down on his own.

Before I had Stannah I was Cyril’s stairlift, I used to put my hands under his bottom to literally get him upstairs. It’s made a big, big difference to my life.

Daphne’s story using Stannah Stairlifts

Daphne

Well, my partner told me there was a very pretty place to retire to and I came to see it and looked at horror and thought “I can’t buy this house because I can’t climb stairs.” I had lived since 1959 in bungalows and then I saw an advert I think, obviously, and I thought, “Yes, I can. I can have a Stannah stairlift”, which is exactly what I did.

And I still can’t climb stairs and I sail away up to bed at night and come down in the morning. I was able to buy this pretty little place which I’d fallen in love with.

I was very interested that Stannah Stairlifts of course is a family company, they didn’t force-sell the equipment, they gave me a choice and a choice of colour and they said “Well this is the date we can give you” and they arrived. They were very, very efficient with very little mess, the staff were very good and very polite.

I am impressed by Stannah Stairlifts – I think they’re excellent, I don’t think you could have a better company to deal with.

Martin and Sue’s story using Stannah Stairlifts

Martin

For 15 years I have been walking around on a bad knee, at that time I didn’t know any different so I used to struggle up the stairs.

Sue

I had to obtain two quotation so I chose Stannah and another. I phoned Stannah Stairlifts and they booked an appointment, well Shaun phoned back and he was here within a week or so and then Shaun came back to do the measuring and what impressed me was he took so much care. When the fitters came the rails were exactly to this house. It’s a precision job.

Martin

It took about 4 hours that’s all. And I said “Well, I’ll hoover up”. He said “No, don’t bother, we carry our own hoover.” Very impressed.

He gave me a demonstration and I was, well, taken back, especially when he showed me the remote control I thought “Here we go”. I can be half way up the stairs or half way down the stairs. If I forget anything, I just turn the handle the opposite way and off I go again.

Sue

If someone came to me for advice I would say, you know, without delay ring a reliable company and Stannah would be the top of my list.

Martin

I really could not believe I could get on there and to walk straight off onto a landing, I had never done that, that is super duper duper. I would recommend Stannah Stairlifts to anybody.

This is a super funny Acorn Stairlifts video. I know it has objectionable content and might not be appropriate for this website, but I couldn’t resist.

US Medical Supplies Added New Lift Chairs to Its Product Line

Pride Mobility LL-770

Pride Mobility LL-770

US Medical Supplies, an online retailer of over 10,000 medical and mobility products, has announced the addition of two new lift chairs to its product line. The Pride LL-770S and Pride LL-770L are infinite-position lift chairs which allow users to recline to a number of positions, including the Trendelenburg position, in which the feet are elevated above the heart.

The LL-770 series lift recliner is available in two seat widths – with the S and L models respectively signifying small and large – to accommodate users of varying sizes. The LL-770S sports a 19-inch wide seat and 24-inch tall seat back; the LL-770L has a seat width of 22 inches and backrest height of 28 inches. US Medical Supplies recommends the S model for users of 5’0 to 5’4 in height, and the L model for users 5’5 to 6’0 in height. Both models feature a sewn pillow back and chaise pad. The infinite-position capabilities of these liftchairs allow a user to sit or lay comfortably, as well as achieve a full Trendelenburg position to aid circulation and relieve lower back pressure.

This position is sometimes recommended by doctors as a preventative measure against hypotension, or low blood pressure. “We’re pleased to be able to offer these new lift chairs to our customers”, said Tim Ziehwein, VP of Sales for US Medical Supplies. “The LL-770 is a great lift chair that’s comfortable, versatile, and easy to use. Being able to offer it in multiple sizes means satisfying the needs of more of our customers, so obviously we’re excited to be carrying them.”

Pride Mobility, the manufacturer of the LL-770 lift chairs, is an industry leader in mobility technology. Started as a family company in 1986, Pride’s early focus was building lift chairs. The company eventually branched into producing powered wheelchairs and scooters, and in the 24 years since has become known worldwide for its innovative design philosophy.

In addition to Pride lift chairs, US Medical Supplies offers a large selection of mobility and accessibility products, such as power wheelchairs, mobility scooters, stair lifts, bath lifts, and walk-in bathtubs. Be sure to visit usmedicalsupplies.com/Pride-Lift-Chairs.htm for detailed specifications on the Pride LL-770 series of lift chairs, or to see their entire selection of Pride lift recliners.

Teenage girl on stairlift to millions after stumbling on handrail idea for a GCSE project

article 1227637 0734E37F000005DC

Stairway to millions: Ruth Amos, aged 19, pictured demonstrating the 'StairSteady' at her home.

When Ruth Amos created a design for a handrail as part of a GCSE project, her main focus was to ensure she would get a good grade.

The 16-year-old schoolgirl never expected that her design idea would be turned into a device that has helped change the lives of disabled and elderly people.

Now, three years on, she is running an expanding firm – and in a few years could potentially earn millions.
This week the teenager’s achievements were honored when she was presented with the Young Star award at the Women of the Future awards in Central London.

Ruth, 19, from Sheffield, designed the StairSteady to help those with walking difficulties climb the stairs as part of her design and technology GCSE project.

Her teacher asked her to design a product that would help solve a dilemma for him.

He told Ruth that his mother did not want a stairlift put into her house, but could not get up the stairs without one.
Ruth designed and developed a metal bar attached to a metal stair rail. It allows those with limited mobility to use the stairs without worrying that they will fall.

Those using the StairSteady push the bar along the rail to help them balance when they want go up and down the stairs.

The bar uses friction to lock itself in place so users can pull themselves up to the next step. It will lock in place if the user falls or stumbles. When not in use, the handle can be pushed flat against the wall.
Ruth’s design was so good that a local company made a prototype for her. She won the Young Engineer of Britain award in 2006 and started her business – all at the same time as taking and passing 15 GCSEs.

The StairSteady, which costs £470, has been so successful that Miss Amos is now considering selling it abroad.

She currently sells it nationwide, in partnership with Minivator, the UK’s second largest manufacturer of stairlifts, and it is being bought at a rate of more than three per week.

Although she would not disclose her turnover as she is in the middle of negotiations, her business is worth more than £60,000 a year.

She had been planning to go to university, but has put that on hold for three years to concentrate on the business.

‘I can’t believe how successful the StairSteady’s been,’ said Ruth. ‘It’s doing really well and we’re looking to expand our range and take the business to Europe,’ she said.

‘Often a fresh mind on an old market place is the best thing. I love running the business and I love being an entrepreneur.’
